He also revealed former Albion man Alireza Jahanbakhsh had a word with him about moving to Sussex.
“Alireza said it’s a really nice club, everybody is willing to help and also the place to live is quite good – he said it’s next to the beach,” Mats said. “It’s one hour on the train to London and there are worse places in England to live, he was quite positive!
“He really sold it, he was happy for me that I signed here. I already knew almost the whole team before I came here [because of the Dutch players]! Minteh is also a really good player. I spent last season with him.”
The 24-year-old spoke about working under Fabian Hurzeler and what the German expects from him.
“He always shows me clips of what I have to improve, as do Crofty and the new coaches as well, what I have to do better.
“That's especially in the scanning part position wise, where I can be better with what they want me to do because I'm used to other things. I have to adapt quickly.
“My former coach [Arne Slot], how he wanted me to play is almost the same as now. Some things are different, but most of the things are quite the same. It's not really a big switch. If I have to play long balls and stuff, then it's really different, but we always want to play here.”
