Georginio Rutter was pleased with three points against Leeds United and a clean sheet on what he admitted had been an emotional afternoon for him.
The French forward, who joined Albion from Leeds in summer 2024, played a part in both of Diego Gomezâs two second-half goals, but although he has yet to score himself this season, he is happy with his contribution to the team.
âYes, very emotional,â he said. âObviously I played for Leeds. When I was there it was a good moment. I think me and the fans, we were very close, so I was very happy to see them today. And I hope for them they're going to stay up in the Premier League. I had this in my head, but we have to play football. I had to think about my teammates as well. So yes, we won, but it was a special moment today.â

Georginio was only credited with one assist against Leeds, although his clever decision to step over Yankuba Mintehâs low cross bamboozled defender Joe Rodon and allowed Gomez a tap-in for the gameâs second goal. âI don't think they give me an assist, but I don't mind,â he said. âI knew I had to go first post and I knew he was behind me, so I left the ball.â
But there was no doubt when he picked up Jayden Bogleâs miskick six minutes later and headed for the near post before cutting the ball back for Gomez to net his second.
âThe second one is definitely an assist. So yes, I'm very happy and very happy for him as well. But the more important thing today is not about assists, we won so I'm very happy. I'm here every time to help the team.â

Thanks to the support of head coach Fabian Hurzeler, his absence from the scoresheet so far has not been weighing on his mind. âWhen I speak with the manager, he says that sometimes we don't need to score. If we win and you help the team, it's more important.
âI'm not the type of player who thinks âgoal, goal, goalâ every time because I'm not like this. When I can assist, like today, I do. I'm not focused on goals, I'm more focused on helping the team and being here for my teammates.
âIt was very important for us to win, for the confidence. We didn't have a good week, we lost twice. I think it's good to have this win and a clean sheet as well. And I hope we keep going like this.â
