Fabian Hurzeler said Albion supporters’ backing got the win over the line against Nottingham Forest.
All three goals in the 2-1 victory were scored in the opening 15 minutes, with Forest’s push for a late equaliser ultimately unsuccessful.
“We want to create a desire to defend as a team and to bring an energy to the pitch that involves everybody in the stadium,” Hurzeler said. “We did that in both halves.
“The supporters were great, they helped and pushed us over the line to win this game. In the last moments of the game we showed this desire to defend the box and block shots.”
Goals from Diego Gomez and Danny Welbeck ensured consecutive victories for the Albion in an enthralling contest at the Amex on Sunday afternoon.
While the opening period certainly made for good entertainment, it wasn’t something that our German head coach enjoyed too much.
“It wasn’t that great [the opening 15 minutes], but if we finish with a result like this, of course you look at it a bit differently. But the goal from them was unbelievable and maybe a bit unlucky for us. We defended it ok, we were a bit unlucky and that happens in football.
“Mistakes happen but how we reacted was the most important thing. We reacted within minutes with another goal.”
Albion have now won back-to-back Premier League games, seeing us move up to 11th in the table.
Despite a run of one win 13 games prior to the consecutive victories, Hurzeler was never tempted to change tact.
“Moving the ball quickly, having simple passes and touches, taking care of the ball, good positioning and movement [is what I want]. We created good chances, we had good moments and scored some nice goals. In the end we also defended well.
“You have to believe in your own quality, believe in the team, the togetherness from this group with the supporters. We know what we are capable of doing.”
