Gomez: I’d never scored a hat-trick, let alone four!
Paraguay international became the first player in 16 years to score four goals in a single game.

Diego Gomez admits to having dreamt about scoring a hat-trick, so who knows where his head must have been after scoring four at Barnsley.
The midfielder headed into Tuesday night’s game with two Brighton goals to his name, but there was confidence in the Albion ranks he could add to that after his performances in training.
“It’s the first time I’ve got four. I’m very happy and very grateful to my teammates who helped me score goals. It’s even the first time I’ve scored three!," he said.
“This is my characteristic, to shoot from a long way out and fortunately they were fantastic goals. The second and third both went in very well.

“Just before we had a shooting practice. I didn’t score too many in that but they went in during the match fortunately and I am really happy.
“The coach always asks me to get into the area. I was playing wide this time but luckily I was able to get in there where the coach wants and score a goal.
“I was like half-winger, a wide playmaker because he wanted me to go and help the central midfielders. I like the role but I always try to make the most of the job the coach gives me. I like playing wherever it is to help the team.”

Diego Gomez helped himself to four goals at Oakwell on Tuesday evening, as Albion score 6 for the second time in the Carabao Cup this season. Club photographer Paul Hazlewood was in Yorkshire to capture all the action.
The Paraguay international had already received a text message from his national team boss Gustavo Alfaro by the time he got back into the dressing room, having helped Paraguay confirm their place at the 2026 World Cup at the start of this month.
“He congratulated me on the game and for the goals I scored. He is always watching what we are doing and I’m very happy to have that support.
“After getting through with the national team, it was a unique experience. Now I have to keep training in the best way and improving to go to the World Cup in the best shape with a lot of good performances to help Brighton.”
