Amario Cozier-Duberry is relishing the next stage of his career development after earning his first call-up to the England under-21 squad.
The Young Lions begin their qualifying campaign for the next European Championships against Kazakhstan on Friday at Molineux.
The exciting young winger spent a highly productive pre-season with Albion before joining Middlesbrough, having helped Bolton win promotion to the Championship last season.
Cozier-Duberry has already had three goal involvements for Boro, scoring his first goal for them against Norwich City earlier this month.
He is full of praise for the environment at Albion. "I enjoyed the pre-season there," he said. "You're playing with the top, top players, so you're only going to improve."
Despite his positive experiences Cozier-Duberry recognised the need for consistent playing time.
"It was definitely a tough one. I did want to stay, but I just thought to myself I could go out and get consistent minutes,” he added.
“For me, it's just being true to myself and trying to go somewhere where I'll play and feel like I can contribute and be of value to the team. Not just being a number, going places where hopefully I can just keep excelling."
The move to Middlesbrough presented the perfect opportunity. The Championship side’s expansive style strongly appealed to him.
"The style of play I think just suits me, and it's a big club with a big history as well, so it was quite an easy decision to make to go to Boro."
Ultimately, Cozier-Duberry’s ambitions remain firmly tied to returning to Albion and making an impact in the top flight.
But he says by gaining vital Championship experience he is building the physical and tactical sharpness required to reach his ultimate target.
"That's the main goal. Just to be playing in the Premier League and achieve something,” he added.
Amario is one of 15 players who are on duty for their countries during this extended three-week international break while several others are on standby.
Babis Kostoulas's form for Albion has earned him promotion to Greece's senior squad.
They include Babis Kostoulas, who was promoted to Greece’s senior squad for their Nations League games as recognition for his early-season form which included goals in Albion’s last three matches.
