Amario Cozier-Duberry produced another brilliant finish to help Bolton stun League One leaders Cardiff City.
The 20-year-old winger struck in stoppage time for the second successive game as the Trotters won 1-0.
Bolton boss Steven Schumacher admitted he considered bringing him off with 15 minutes to go because of tiredness but kept him on because he knew he might produce a match-winning moment. Sure enough, he curled in his fifth goal of the season from 20 yards in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Albion’s loan manager Gordon Greer has been to Bolton’s training ground to check in with Cozier-Duberry and Schumacher believes the loan is benefitting both clubs.
“He had a loan last year (at Blackburn) that didn’t go unbelievably well but this season he is playing every week and becoming the main man," said Schumacher. "Brighton needed us to give him the opportunity to shine and he is getting it.
“Who knows how far he can go? It is over to him. But his stock is only getting higher that is great for both clubs.”
It was a good day for Albion loanees in the League One. Kamari Doyle got Reading’s equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Doncaster Rovers after coming off the bench with an hour played. Mark O’Mahony got the closing minutes of what turned out to be Noel Hunt’s final game in charge of the Royals.
Having set a new club record for the longest period without conceding a goal, Carl Rushworth has been beaten twice in the last week, but it hasn’t halted Coventry City’s momentum at the top of the Championship. A 2-1 midweek win at Portsmouth was followed on Saturday by a 3-1 victory over Watford. James Beadle has established himself as No1 at Birmingham City in recent weeks but after keeping a clean sheet against Preston last Tuesday Beadle conceded the only goal against Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
Elsewhere in the EFL, Caylan Vickers played the last 20 minutes of Barnsley’s 1-0 home defeat to Rotherham and it was a bad afternoon for defender Jacob Slater, whose Harrogate side lost 3-0 at home to Newport County in League Two.
In Europe, Jeremy Sarmiento came on at half-time to help Cremonese draw 1-1 against Atalanta in Serie A but Evan Ferguson was an unused substitute for Roma who won 1-0 at Sassuolo. In France Matt O’Riley played for 74 minutes in Marseille’s surprise 2-1 home defeat against Lens. Ibrahim Osman was a late replacement in Auxerre’s 1-0 loss at home to Le Harve.
