It was a mixed weekend for Albion’s army of loanees across Europe and the Football League with no fewer than eleven players in action.
Facundo Buonanotte started the weekend in style by scoring his fourth Premier League goal of the season for Leicester, but the 19-year-old couldn’t prevent Ruud van Nistelrooy’s new side from losing 4-1 at Brentford with the Dutchman watching on from the stands.
There was also top-flight action for Malick Yalcouye in the Austrian Bundesliga as Sturm Graz drew 1-1 at SCR Altach, after he also played an hour in Wednesday’s Champions League victory over Girona. Kjell Scherpen missed both matches as Die Schwoazn won in Europe for the first time this term and extended their lead at the top of the league.

Ibrahim Osman was ruled out of Feyenoord’s draw at Manchester City in Europe and Fortuna Sittard in Eredivisie.
Back in England, James Beadle helped Sheffield Wednesday continue to climb the Championship table with their second away win of the week – a 2-1 victory at Derby which followed their 2-0 win at Hull City on Tuesday.
Carl Rushworth was on the opposition bench when the Owls beat Hull, and he had to watch on again as the Tigers lost to Middlesbrough on Saturday. Andrew Moran did come off the bench for Stoke against Burnley but couldn’t prevent a 2-0 defeat for the Potters.

Jeremy Sarmiento played 72 minutes of that clash for the Clarets, with the three points keeping Scott Parker’s side second in the league after their midweek win over Coventry which Sarmiento scored in.
Mark O’Mahony was another Albion loanee to be subbed on over the weekend as Portsmouth played their first full 90 minutes in over three weeks, after a waterlogged pitch at Blackburn and floodlight failure against Millwall, but a knock meant he only lasted 12 minutes as John Mousinho’s side drew 2-2 with Swansea.
Amario Cozier-Duberry was also unable to impact the game he was involved in, having to enjoy Blackburn’s last two impressive wins – against Middlesbrough on Wednesday and Leeds on Saturday – as an unused substitute after recovering from injury.
Dropping into League One, Odel Offiah and Kamari Doyle were both in action – but Offiah’s Blackpool lost 2-1 to Birmingham City in the FA Cup after their 2-0 league win at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday and Offiah was substituted late on through injury against Birmingham. The Blues also dealt Doyle’s Exeter defeat in the week, but the Grecians bounced back with a 2-0 win in the FA Cup against Chesterfield.
North of the border, Scottish Cup action took place with Ben Jackson subbed on for the final half hour of Livingston’s 2-0 win against Brora Rangers, but an injury ruled Casper Nilsson out of Partick Thistle’s 2-2 draw at Queen’s Park.
