It was another busy weekend for the flock of Seagulls out on loan with Malick Yalcouye grabbing the headlines in Austria.
The 19-year-old is enjoying a superb season at Sturm Graz, and he capped off a fantastic 90 minute performance on Saturday by scoring the third goal in Die Schwoazn’s 3-0 win at WSG Tirol to keep them top of the Austrian Bundesliga.
Kjell Scherpen had to miss that match for Sturm while he recovers from an injury, but elsewhere on the continent, there were minutes for Valentin Barco who played the full 90 in Sevilla’s Copa Del Rey win against Olot; Abdallah Sima, who came off the bench for Stade Brest in their 3-1 defeat at Lille; and Ibrahim Osman, who returned from a knock to play the last half hour of Feyenoord’s 2-1 victory against RKC Waalwijk.
Back on these shores, Albion had eight men’s players in action across the EFL with James Beadle in goal for Sheffield Wednesday as the Owls were held to a 1-1 by Preston in the Championship.
Andrew Moran and Jeremy Sarmiento were also left frustrated in the second tier as Moran’s Stoke lost 2-1 at fourth-placed Sunderland and Sarmiento’s Burnley had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to fellow promotion chasers Middlesbrough, while the injured Mark O’Mahony had to watch on as Portsmouth beat Bristol City 3-0.
It was however a positive weekend in the Championship for Amario Cozier-Duberry, as the 19-year-old came off the bench to help Blackburn move into the Championship’s play-off places with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Hull City.
Amario Cozier-Duberry helped Blackburn maintain their play-off challenge with a narrow victory over Hull City.
In League One, Kamari Doyle only played the final nine minutes as Exeter lost 2-0 at high-flying Stockport, but Odel Offiah’s third tier Blackpool beat Shrewsbury 2-1 with our full-back playing the full 90.
Grimsby made it back-to-back wins in League Two with Luca Barrington playing the final three minutes on Saturday as the Mariners beat Morecambe 3-0 and Tom McGill kept a clean sheet in the same league as MK Dons moved into the play-offs with a 3-0 win over Chesterfield. Benicio Baker-Boaitey was an unused sub as Port Vale lost 1-0 at Walsall.
Ben Jackson was also an unused substitute north of the border as Livingston drew 0-0 at Greenock Morton in the Scottish Championship, while Casper Nilsson remains injured as Partick Thistle won 1-0 at Ayr United.
Women’s Football
Libby Bance’s Bristol City currently sit third in the Women’s Championship after relegation from the WSL last season, but the Robins turned their attention to FA Cup action on Sunday with our midfielder starting City’s 3-0 win at Southampton.
Grace McEwen and Lily Dent were also in FA Cup action for Portsmouth as they beat Luton – who our women’s first team beat 6-0 in the same competition last season – 5-0.
Elsewhere, Li Mengwen was an unused substitute for West Ham in their big 5-2 win against Crystal Palace in the WSL while Comfort Erhabour’s Plymouth and Clarabella Hall’s AFC Wimbledon had their matches postponed due to Storm Darragh.
