Fabian Hurzeler has praised the ‘unbelievable’ James Milner after the midfielder announced his retirement following 24 seasons as a professional.
Albion’s head coach worked with Milner for two seasons after coming to the club in June 2024 and says he will never forget the support he gave him during some tough moments. In February, Milner broke the record for the most Premier League appearances when Hurzeler brought him back into the starting XI for the 2-0 win at Brentford, a result which kick-started our strong finish to the season.
“James is an unbelievable leader, unbelievable person and an unbelievable role model, not only for me but for everyone in this club - for the young players, for the experienced players, for every staff member," said Hurzeler.
“He is the definition of intensity, of (setting) great standards and pushing the limits every day. His achievements are incredible, and for me it was no surprise because I saw him working hard every day.
“I wanted to say thank you for everything that you did for this club, for everything that you did for me.
“I will never forget your support in tough moments. I will never forget your intensity, your energy and your demands on the pitch.
”I hope that you enjoy the time after Brighton. I hope that you can stay as you are. Thanks a lot for everything you did.”
