Shannon Ruth knows his under-21s will have to be at their best if they are to book an Amex date in the final of the Sussex Transport Senior Cup.
Having put seven goals past Whitehawk in the last round Albion face more step three opponents tonight when they face holders Horsham in the semi-final at Culver Road (7.30pm). The Hornets are third in the Isthmian Premier table and have already knocked Worthing out of this year’s competition.
Ruth, whose side are looking to bounce back from last Friday’s 3-1 defeat to Fulham in PL2, says Albion will be well prepared.
He said, “We have done our homework on Horsham, so we have a good idea what to expect. They are having a strong season and will be confident and well organised. They are also the holders so they will be looking to return to the Amex.
“We treat the Senior Cup the same way we do every competition. It’s an opportunity to win a trophy at the Amex and it’s important to give our players as much exposure as possible against different types of opposition.
“The games we play in competitions like the Senior Cup are unique in our fixture programme. PL2 matches tend to be possession-based with an emphasis on keeping the ball and a more structured build-up. Whereas this competition gives the players great understanding of senior football and the tools that they might need if they go on loan.”
