Victoria Williams has lauded Albionâs young players for stepping up to the plate during a tough period for the womenâs team.Â
The 32-year-old admitted the big turnover of players in the summer and Hope Powellâs departure has made it a difficult few months, but has been impressed with how the younger squad members have applied themselves during the recent upturn in form.Â
âWeâve had some good results lately; we havenât lost in three which has been great for the confidence of the group. For a new squad coming together, everything hasnât gone as we planned at times.Â
âItâs been a real test of our character as a group and testament to the girls, we seemed to have pushed through that period now. Weâre scoring a lot of goals which in the past has been a sticking point, so confidence is high in that sense.Â
âWeâre aware that we still need to tighten up a bit at the back, but as far as weâre concerned itâs a process and one that everyone is invested in. Weâre improving.Â
âIt's required the young players to be brave, itâs a big league to come and play in â itâs fiercely competitive. Regardless of the results at times, they have stood up and been counted, so hopefully this will put them in good stead this season and beyond.Â
âWeâre one of, if not the youngest squad in the WSL right now, so to still be able to perform the way we are is testament to the group and I believe there is a lot more to come from us.Â
Albion have had a record number of season ticket holders this campaign.
Victoria reckons the fantastic support weâve seen this season following the success of the Lionesses in the summer has further emboldened the squad.Â
âWeâre grateful for the support that the fans have given us during this period, it was so nice to get to the Liverpool game at home and have nearly 3,000 fans there.Â
âEven going to London City last week, we had travelling fans and that has been really important for the girls, that people will stick with us and can see the effort and see the strides weâre trying to make as a group.âÂ
Albion head to Manchester City this weekend for a 2pm kick-off that will be available to watch live on FA Player.
