Striker keen to kick on after successful first season.

Danny Welbeck was pleased to play more Premier League football last season than he previously managed since the 2014/15 campaign.

In 24 appearances the 30-year-old scored six times as well as getting three assists – meaning the striker was directly involved in a goal every 172 minutes he played (1548 minutes in total).

Now the former Manchester United and Arsenal man is aiming to contribute even more having signed a new contract this summer.

“It’s very important for me mentally and physically to play every week. It’s been a while since I played that much football in the Premier League so last season was good in setting a foundation for me to build on.

“I know the level I can perform at and what I can produce on the pitch – I showed glimpses of that last season and now it’s about doing it on a more consistent basis.

“The Premier League is the best league in the world and it’s also the toughest but I really enjoy it and I know there is still a lot more to come from me.

“Last season was okay, but I think we can do better. As a team we put in some really good performances but it was just the small details that meant we didn’t end up getting the three points in quite a few games we should have and that’s the area we’ve got to improve. If we can get on top of that we can definitely push up the table.”

Welbeck believes Albion supporters being back at the Amex will play a big role this season.

“It’s been a quite a while since we played in a full stadium and watching the Euros and seeing how big a part the fans played for the England team showed how massive it was. I can’t wait for them to get the Amex bouncing.”
