Webster keen to continue positive performances on the road

Adam Webster is eager to continue Albion’s good displays away from home when they take on Everton at Goodison Park, but is wary of a potential reaction from Carlo Ancelotti’s Toffees after their FA Cup defeat to Liverpool.

The Merseysiders were beaten 1-0 by their city rivals last week, and Webster says a fast start is crucial to their chances of getting a result on Saturday.

He said, “It will be a tough game with Everton having just appointed a new manager. They are a massive club that have spent a lot of money on what is a good squad. They’ll look to push up the table, but we’ve got to go there and play our game and hopefully we can beat them.

“Overall we’ve played well away from home, and we probably deserved a few more points than what we’ve got already. [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin has been in good form, so we have to be on our game. It will be key for us to start the game well, and hopefully that will help us.”

Potter’s men also head into the game on the back of a 1-0 defeat, against Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday, and the centre-back stressed the importance of bouncing back after a below-par display.

“It’s always difficult when you play Sheffield Wednesday, as they’re a good side that made it tough for us," he said.

“They wanted to prove a point that they were a better team than us and we weren’t at the races on the day."

The 25-year-old also spoke about playing in both a three-man and four-man defence, and explained he had no preference to either, before praising the preparation that Graham Potter and his staff put into every game.

“I enjoy playing in both. In a three, you get more license to step in and get forward, but it’s not too different in a four. Everyone knows their roles and responsibilities and I wouldn’t say I prefer either more than the other.

“The detail in which we prepare for every game is so thorough and it helps us massively when we step out on the pitch. On Saturday, we will all know our responsibilities and how we can hurt the other team. That’s been massive for me and really helped. I’ve never been at a club where we do that in so much detail.”
