Matt Clarke, Viktor Gyokeres and Leo Ostigard all helped their respective teams secure positive results over the weekend in the Championship.
Clarke and Derby County drew 1-1 away to AFC Bournemouth on the south coast. The result leaves them 22nd in the league table ahead of their home game with QPR on Wednesday.
Gyokeres was a second half substitute as Swansea City beat Blackburn Rovers 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday. The Swans occupy second in the Championship and make the short trip to face Bristol City this evening.
Ostigard and Coventry City sealed arguably the biggest result of the weekend in the division as the Sky Blues were impressive 3-2 winners at home to league leaders Reading on Friday night at St Andrew’s.
It was the first time the Royals had tasted defeat this season. Ostigard and Mark Robins’ men travel to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest tomorrow night.
Elsewhere in the EFL, Warren O’Hora and MK Dons had to settle for a point on home soil.
The Irish defender played the entirety of the 1-1 draw at Stadium MK against AFC Wimbledon. The 19th placed Dons face Northampton tonight in League One, who sit one place above Russell Martin’s side.
In the same division, fellow central defender Haydon Roberts and Rochdale drew 1-1 with Bristol Rovers at home and travel to face Oxford United tonight. Dale sit 14th after ten league matches this term.
Further down the pyramid, Roco Rees suffered FA Trophy heartbreak as Worthing were knocked out in the third qualifying round by Leiston. Having drawn 4-4 in normal time, the Mackerel Men were beaten 4-2 on penalties.
In Scotland, Shane Duffy and Celtic sealed their place in the Scottish Cup final with a 2-0 win over Aberdeen at Hampden Park.
Neil Lennon’s men will face Hearts in December as they look to lift the trophy and are back in action on Thursday when they host Sparta Prague in the Europa League group stages.
Jakub Moder and Lech Poznan host Standard Liege in the same competition this week, with both sides looking for their first win in Group D.
Jan Paul van Hecke was on target as Heerenveen were 4-1 winners over Sparta Rotterdam in Holland’s top-flight.
The defender netted his first goal of the new season after 25 minutes in a result that moved the side up to fourth ahead of their game with AZ Alkmaar this weekend.
In Belgium, Percy Tau and Anderlecht were 1-0 winners over table-topping Royal Antwerp. Vincent Kompany’s side now occupy sixth place after 11 games and take on Gent on Sunday.
Finally, it was a first full 90 minutes for Jan Mlakar with Maribor last night, as the Slovenian side moved up to second in the top division with a 3-1 win over NK Aluminij.
