To mark Leandro Trossard’s 100th Premier League appearance for Albion, we’ve taken a look at his top ten moments for Albion.
With 29 goal involvements since he joined us in the summer of 2019 (18 goals, 11 assists), it’s fair to say Leo has played a big part of some of Albion’s best Premier League moments.
A debut to remember – Albion v West Ham, 17th August 2019
Having been an unused substitute in Albion’s opening day 3-0 win over Watford, Trossard was given his first competitive start for the club the following week against West Ham. Having been 1-0 down at the Amex, Glenn Murray was dispossessed on the edge of the Irons’ box but Leo was there to control and fire home emphatically from the edge of the box. What a start to life in an Albion shirt.
He'll take the credit – Albion v Everton, 26th October 2019
Pascal Gross’s thunderous free-kick had got Albion off to a flyer, but an Adam Webster own goal and a smart finish from Dominic Calvert-Lewin had Albion on the ropes. Neal Maupay kept nis nerve from the penalty spot to equalise with ten minutes to play and then it was bedlam at the Amex as Leo’s low cross was turned in by Lucas Digne in stoppage time. Fair play to the Belgium international for celebrating like he’d scored!
Spurred on – Albion v Tottenham, 31st January 2021
Leandro thanks Pascal for teeing up.
A superb one-two between Pascal Gross and Alexis Mac Allister saw the German get to the by-line and cut it back for Trossard, who fired past Hugo Lloris at his near post. It proved to be a vital three points, putting distance between Albion and the bottom three.
Magpies undone by Albion magic – Albion v Newcastle, 20th March 2021
Having scored the winner at Southampton the week before, Leo got himself nominated for Goal of the Month with a lovely finish against Newcastle. After bringing down Joel Veltman’s pass, he cut in and found the bottom right corner with aplomb. As if that wasn’t enough, Trossard then teed up Danny Welbeck to fire home a carbon-copy strike as Albion cruised to a 3-0 win.
Shhhoooooooooootttttt! – Albion v Manchester City, 18th May 2021
A real Amex classic this one. A goal down in the opening minutes before Phil Foden scored a second for ten-man City early in the second half, the return of fans in numbers to the Amex threatened to become a damp squib. But Albion regrouped, with Leo getting things back on track with a brilliant strike, sitting down seemingly all the City defenders before firing past Ederson. Adam Webster nodded in before Dan Burn squeezed home the winner.
Bees stung at the death – Brentford v Albion, 11th September 2021
An afternoon where a point each would have been a fair result. Leo had other ideas. Cutting it onto his right boot in the final minute, he found the bottom corner to make it back-to-back away wins, after the opening day win over Burnley. Scenes.
Reds pegged back – Liverpool v Albion, 30th October 2021
Had Sadio Mane’s goal not been ruled out for offside to make it 3-0 at Anfield, Albion would have been out of the game. But that proved to be the turning point as Enock Mwepu scored Albion’s Goal of the Season before Trossard curled home a contender for the award himself to make it 2-2 in front of the Kop.
Enock and Leo shine at the Emirates – Arsenal v Albion, 9th April 2022
Graham Potter has enjoyed a good record against Arsenal in his managerial career and Leo played his part in extending that run. Lewis Dunk’s ball down the right flank for Mwepu was controlled by the Zambian who cut it back for Trossard to slam into the top corner. Mwepu added another in some style, before Martin Odegaard grabbed a late consolation for the Gunners.
Spurred on 2.0 – Spurs v Albion, 16th April 2022
Albion’s previous win over Spurs had been behind closed doors, so when Leo chopped past Eric Dier and found the bottom corner with the outside of his boot, it’s fair to say the celebrations made it all the more enjoyable. Oh, and did we mention it was in the last minute?
Red Devils demolished – Albion v Manchester United, 7th May 2022
They all count, right? Arguably Albion’s greatest ever result in the Premier League saw Trossard scramble the ball home from all of a yard against Manchester United. A VAR check concluded the ball hadn’t hit the Belgian’s arm to make it 4-0. Leo had already made his mark on the day by teeing up Marc Cucurella and Pascal Gross to score on a day that will go down in the history books.
