Maisie Symonds reckons Birmingham City will have revenge in mind when they take on Albion on Wednesday.

Albion’s opening group game of this season’s Conti Cup sees them face a Blues side who were dispatched 5-0 at St Andrew’s by Hope Powell’s team in September.

“We want to do well in the Conti Cup,” Symonds said. “But Birmingham are going to be a tough team to play against and are going to want to exact some sort of revenge, they will want to show us that our win over them was a one-off. They’re definitely not going to roll over.”

The England Under-19 international was back in action for Albion in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur after recovering from a calf injury.

“I was very happy to be back. Spurs were in great form heading into the game but we knew we could beat them if we stuck to our gameplan. I didn’t know if I’d get game time, but I tried to make an impact when I came on, which fortunately I did with Victoria [Williams] scoring from my corner.

“At the time I didn’t know it would be the winning goal – I wanted to contribute and it was great to see Victoria get the goal. They scored straight after and it was squeaky bum time!”

The result was Albion’s third win of the Women’s Super League campaign – moving them up to fifth in the division.

Victoria Williams and Geummin Lee scored the goals against Tottenham on Sunday.

“We’ve proven to ourselves that we can beat the top teams and compete with the best. We want to push on, we’ve got goals set out for the squad and we’re working towards that.

“I am really enjoying my time. It’s great to have a pathway into the first team, to be able to make progress. It’s exciting.

“The new training ground is amazing, we’ve got everything we need and it’s showing on the pitch. We’re pushing to beat the top teams and working towards consistently beating the sides around us.”
