Brighton & Hove Albion Soccer Schools are back this October half-term and are being run in line with the FA’s Covid-19 guidance for grassroots football.
With sessions coming up in Brighton, Eastbourne, Horsham, Uckfield and Worthing, for anyone aged between 5 and 12 years old, Albion in the Community will be delivering the popular soccer schools in a safe and adapted way to ensure they fully adhere to government guidance on preventing the spread of Covid-19.
All of the soccer schools this half term will:
Have full Covid-19 risk assessments before each session.
Follow FA guidelines on grassroots football and will have a high coach-to-player ratio and extra protocols in place.
Parents will be asked to complete self-declaration forms before their child attends.
Temperature checks at the start of each soccer school and sanitiser stations at the venues.
Equipment will be regularly cleaned throughout the day and everyone taking part will be expected to fully adhere to government guidance on preventing the spread of Covid-19.
In addition, all participants are being encouraged to download the NHS test and trace app and use this to log-in on arrival at sessions using the QR code on display.
Mark Pedrick, football pathway manager at Albion in the Community, said the charity he was looking forward to welcoming children back to soccer schools this half term. He said, “with the recent lockdown and downturn in physical activity amongst young people it’s great to be able to provide opportunities in a safe environment for kids to play football. The safety of all our young players is absolutely central to everything we do and we have put in place a range of extra measures to make our sessions as safe as possible”.
One parent who attended the adapted sessions over the summer commented “I think the football sessions are one of the things my daughter has missed most since lockdown started and it has been fantastic to see her able to enjoy it again. I was impressed with the efforts made to encourage safe play and coaching. It obviously required a more regimented approach, but the temperature checks, availability of sanitizer and the care that was taken with equipment showed that it is possible to mitigate the risks of team sports for children.”
