Albion goalkeeper wins prize for the third time in his career.

Maty Ryan has won the Australia PFA Player of the Year award.

Maty Ryan has won the Australian PFA Player of the Year award for the second consecutive year.

It is the third time the goalkeeper has received the accolade, having previously won it in 2015 and 2019.

He said, “First and foremost, I would rather trade in any personal accolade for winning trophies and reaching our goals collectively - the personal awards are always the cherry on top.

Maty Ryan's save of last season came when he tipped a long-range effort onto the crossbar at Southampton.

“I am very proud to be receiving such a prestigious award. When it’s voted for by your peers, who you share these experiences with side-by-side, makes it that extra bit special. For them to recognise all that you have done is very touching and I appreciate it. I couldn’t do it without them.”

The 28-year-old – who passed the 100 appearance mark for Albion last season – also praised Australia’s coaching staff and his family.

“They are a big help - the staff behind the scenes that creates that environment so we can play at our best,” he added.

“I am saving the best until last – my family. They have been there to support me since day one, through thick and thin. I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this without all their support.”
