Hope Powell was thrilled for her players after Aileen Whelan’s goal gave them a 1-0 win at Everton and moved them up to third in the Barclays WSL table.
The head coach saw Whelan head home her first goal of the season on the hour as Albion claimed their third win in the last four in all competitions.
Powell said, “The conditions were really difficult but I thought we deserved to win.
“Defensively we were solid again and restricted them to very little.
“In the first half we sat a bit too deep but we pushed our midfielders up in the second half and got on the front foot.

“I think Aileen benefitted from that. She was able to get in the box more and we saw that with the goal.
“She was very brave and took it well and she also hit the post in the first half.”
Albion are back at the Amex next Sunday to take on Leicester City and Powell wants today’s win to give them momentum in the next few weeks.
“It’s a great result but now we have the opportunity to build on it, hopefully in front of a big crowd at the Amex next weekend.”
