The Seagulls head to the London Stadium this afternoon to take on West Ham United looking to chalk up their first victory of 2020.
Potter said, “In terms of the Premier League, you should never feel ‘comfortable’, that’s my perception. We’ve never felt that, it’s more the fact we want to try and get better and improve.
“The realities of the Premier League are that there are a lot of good teams, and if circumstances turn against you then you can have a fight on your hands to stay in the most competitive division in the world.
“Every team goes through a difficult moment, and we’ve had one of those. We knew it would be tough, the side did well to stay in the league last year and I’m very respectful of that achievement.
“Keeping a club in the Premier League isn’t easy, but you should always maintain that level of humility and we should always fight and stick together.”

The Seagulls fell to a 3-1 defeat to AFC Bournemouth last time out, but Potter has been pleased with the reaction he has seen from his squad as they prepare for today’s game.
“Players are disappointed when we don’t win. We’re all the same, everyone feels better when you’ve had a few results,” added Potter.
“We just need to push to try and get a little bit more out of everybody, that’s the next bit.
“There’s no bad side in the league, everyone’s capable of getting results. We have to find the right balance that enables us to do that.”
