The 29-year-old spent last season at Scottish Premiership Celtic, but has returned to the starting XI this campaign and has proved invaluable in the strong start to the campaign.

The defender scored on his Amex return in the 2-0 victory over Watford with a thumping header, and he won the penalty which set up last Sunday’s 2-1 win over Leicester City when another header hit a defender’s arm.

“He must be one of the dangerous in the Premier League in terms of his size, how strong he is, his desire to attack the ball and throw his body in the way of things – it’s a big asset.
