Graham Potter is under no illusions about how tough it will be for Albion to finish the season with a new Premier League points record.
The Seagulls can climb to 41 points with victory over Burnley at Turf Moor today, but Sean Dyche’s men will provide tough opponents, as Potter acknowledged.
Only four clubs have picked up more than their 15 points since the season resumed and Burnley could finish eighth if they win and Sheffield United drop points at Southampton.
Potter is a great admirer of Dyche and what he has achieved at Turf Moor.
“Sean has done an amazing job, and their points haul this season is fantastic,” he said.
The Brighton & Hove Albion boss speaks to the media ahead of our Premier League clash with Burnley.
“They have resilience and quality in their team and I think sometimes people are disrespectful [towards Burnley] and they get a bit of negative comment.
“They can mix it up, press high and are an experienced team with a lot to offer.”
Goalkeeper Nick Pope also has plenty of incentive to not concede. He is currently level with Manchester City’s Ederson on 15 clean sheets in the race for the Golden Gloves award for most shut-outs in the season.
Nonetheless, the chance of setting a new record of their own offer Potter’s men plenty of incentive.
“Our main focus was to stay in the Premier League which we’re delighted to have achieved and now we are going there to hopefully finish the season in a good way,” he said.
“We can look back on the season and feel we have made progress. We have been in transition with a different way of working to get used to and when you do that in a competition as fiercely competitive as the Premier League it can be hard at times.
“But we’ve made a start and we all know a lot more about each other and we’ll be better for that next season. Since lockdown we have shown resilience and quality when we have needed it and the players have been so professional.
“We’ll recharge a bit before it starts again but we want to finish the season with a positive result on Sunday.”
