Cam Peupion admits he is surprised by his exploits in front of goal last month.
The Australia under-23 international scored six times and contributed three assists in five Premier League 2 appearances in April and he has been nominated for PL2 Player of the Month.
The 19-year-old’s form was rewarded with a place on the bench for our Premier League win over Manchester United on Thursday.
“As an attacking player, it’s always important to score goals and get assists to help the team do well,” Peupion said. “I definitely surprised myself with how April went in terms of scoring goals and getting assists against big teams, but it was an enjoyable month.
“Something we’ve been working on the last couple of months with the coaches and analysists is making sure a winger like me arrives in the box at the right time to  anticipate when the ball is going to get played forward or crossed - it’s good that it’s paid off this month.”

Cam probably wishes the PL2 season wasn’t coming to an end tonight against Fulham at Motspur Park, but at the same time is looking forward to the off season.
“It’s a bit of the shame because we’re in good form and the boys are playing well together, t’s a pleasure to play for this team because there’s such great players around you.
“At the same time I think everyone is looking forward to having some time off to clear our heads and go again next season. I think everyone will appreciate some time with their families and we’ll come back stronger next season.”
His goals against eventual PL2 champions Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal have contributed to the under-21s shooting up the table, and they could finish as high as fourth.
“I’ve had a good month, the team has been unbelievable and we have come away with some really big wins and good draws,” added Peupion.
Stay up to date with the under-21s’ final Premier League 2 match against Fulham on our match centre tonight, kick-off 7pm.
