Our men’s under-18s made it back-to-back wins in Premier League South on Saturday with a convincing 4-0 win over Leeds United.
Harry Lee teed up Harry Mills after 24 minutes and the full back slid in to score at the far post before Bailey Smith added another shortly after half-time, when he got on the end of Eliot Jenks’s lovely through ball before rounding the keeper and rolling it home.
Mills had his brace when Albion forced the Whites into a mistake on the edge of their own third, finishing off the move with a well taken strike from the edge of the box.
Harry Mills opened the scoring, converting from Harry Lee's cross.
Leeds’ Cuba Diboe was sent off for an off-the-ball altercation before under-15 Harry Howell grabbed the assist for Albion’s fourth when he picked out Jaydon Fuller, who was initially denied by Leeds keeper Rory Mahady but managed to steer the ball home at the second attempt and complete the rout.
Under-18s professional development phase coach Arthur Brammer said, “We had spoken about togetherness for the last couple of weeks with the changes that have happened across the club. I thought they really showed that – you could see with the celebrations how happy they are for each other. We wanted them to play with joy and to express themselves and they did that.
Arthur Brammer was pleased with the way his players celebrated their goals as a team.
“The changes in the academy weren’t too dramatic for the under-18s, it was just about building on the good work done by Gary Dicker and Owen Fisher.
“We’ve got a young squad at the moment as we’ve got quite a few injuries, so it’s provided us with an opportunity to give those players who have impressed a chance. Harry Howell is one of those. He started in last week’s win over Leicester and got an assist against Leeds. Layth Gulzar got some minutes as well.”
Brammer has been pleased with the mentality his squad have shown.
Arthur Brammer prepares his players ahead of kick-off.
“We want them to value everything they do at the training ground – their education, using the gym - because they need to be at their best day-to-day. It’s something that they can’t turn on and off, every training session needs to be at a high level.
“There will be ups and downs along the way but hopefully we are putting in place good habits for when it gets tough, because in football difficult situations are just around the corner and you’ve got to be ready.”
