There are no limits to what Tariq Lamptey can achieve, according to team-mate Neal Maupay.
Maupay scored twice in a Premier League game for the first time on Sunday as Albion won 3-0 against Newcastle United to equal their best result in the top-flight.
But it was Lampteyâs performance that caught the eye and Maupay believes the 19-year-oldâs career trajectory could end up with full international honours. He made his debut for England under-21s against Austria a fortnight ago.
Maupay said, âFor me, Tariq doesnât have limits. Heâs 19 but playing already at such a high level. Sometimes when young players are that good they can lose their focus a bit but heâs so humble.
Tariq Lamptey won the penalty late on from which Albion equalised.
âI see a great future for him, and hopefully he will have a terrific career and if he carries on at this level he will be an international one day.â
Lamptey only played for 57 minutes but he won the penalty which enabled Maupay to score his first and began the move which led to his second goal. Newcastle didnât have an answer to his searing pace.
âHe gives me a headache sometimes, heâs so quick,â added Maupay. âIn the first half he was involved in everything. Because heâs that quick he always gets to the ball before his opponent which is why he can get fouled so much. Opponents donât know how to deal with him.
âEveryone loves him in the team because heâs such a humble guy. Every time heâs on the pitch he gives everything. Heâs a good defender, has quality on the ball and, of course, he is so quick. Weâre grateful to have him.â
