Tariq Lamptey has praised Roberto De Zerbi and is enjoying playing his part in a “really exciting period for the club”.
The 22-year-old has worked his way into the Italian’s plans in recent weeks, starring in our wins against Liverpool and Bournemouth before our head coach turned to him when we needed a winner against Crystal Palace.
Lamptey was also trusted from the start against Arsenal on New Year’s Eve after his exciting performances for Ghana at the World Cup, and the right-back is full of praise for De Zerbi.
Ahead of Saturday’s Amex date with Fulham, he said, “I am really enjoying working under Roberto.” Every game we play is a new challenge, and he always gives us the tools to perform.
“It’s a really exciting period for the club and I’m happy to be a part of it with him. You can see from watching him on the touchline how passionate he is – he kicks and heads every ball with us – and he’s exactly the same in training every day.
“He demands a high level and expects a lot. We enjoy learning as much as possible, because that gives us the best chance of getting a positive result. We’re moving in the right direction under him.”

Lamptey’s involvement wasn’t so regular at the start of the campaign, but he has bided his time.  “I have had to be patient but I’m playing regularly now. I always give my best when I’m training and whether I start or come on in games, I work my hardest to contribute. I just want to help the team as much as possible.
“Little setbacks like not starting or not getting as many minutes brings out the best in me. I train even harder, try and be as positive around the place as a I can and be the best version of myself whenever I’m called upon.
“As a player you want to play but patience is important and I’m ready to go whenever I’m called upon.”
