Emma Kullberg is enjoying her first taste of playing under new head coach Jens Scheuer.
The Swedish defender returned after eight weeks out with injury last Saturday to help Albion to a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa and she was delighted to play her part after a frustrating spell on the sidelines.
“I like the way we play under Jens,” she said. “I haven’t trained that long with him because of my injury but I think as a group we’re getting better. We work hard in every training session and I think you can see on the pitch that we’re taking steps forward.”
During her time out Albion added five new players to the squad including defenders Zoe Morse and Guro Bergsvand, but Kullberg, who can operate centrally or on the left of the back line, is happy to fight for her place.
Emma Kullberg is enjoying working under Jens Scheuer after recovering from injury.
“With the competition you get better, you push yourself to be the best version of you so you can be in the team," she said. "Overall, having more players is a positive thing for us as a squad.
“Personally, there is always pressure I put on myself because I want to be 100% in every game and training session. I just want to keep improving and to do better than I have done before. I know I can play different positions and if that helps the team then great.”
In a quirk of the fixture list Villa are today’s visitors to the Broadfield Stadium where Albion will be playing their first home WSL game since the end of November.
“They are a really good team, but we know what we need to beat them which is hard work and use our strengths,” added Kullberg. “And we need to work hard to stop them doing what they are good at.”
