Mikey Harris's team finished the season ninth in the WSL.

Interim head coach Mikey Harris was disappointed with the way his team finished the campaign, but paid tribute to the Albion supporters who made the trip to Arsenal on Saturday.

The Gunners ran out 5-0 winners in our final game of the season, with over 300 Albion supporters cheering the team on and showing their support despite the tough result.

“We don’t change our identity, we don’t change our philosophy,” Harris said. “We had to be mindful that it was a big crowd today, the Arsenal fans were really loud and wanted to back their team.

“But I have to say our fans were brilliant, they travelled in their numbers – we had over 300 here today. We’re really grateful to them because they contributed to a fantastic atmosphere.

“Despite the result and the difficult nature of the defeat, they all stayed behind to show their gratitude to the players, which we really appreciated. The fans have been nothing short of brilliant throughout my time in charge and I want to thank them for that.”

Harris felt that it was Arsenal’s quality that ultimately proved too tough to overcome.

“I am obviously gutted, it’s not the way we wanted to end the season. But, I don’t think it was through a lack of effort or application.

“They gave everything today, but we weren’t at the level that we’ve set in the last few months. Arsenal are a top, top team and they showed that. They were incredibly ruthless in the big moments and we had some moments of our own, but it wasn’t to be. It’s been a tough afternoon.

“It was almost written in the starts for Vivienne [Miedema] to score, so congratulations to her on a fantastic career with Arsenal, but it’s been a difficult afternoon for us.”
