Pascal Gross has said the Albion supporters made Saturday’s 4-1 win over Chelsea an absolute joy to play in.

There was added needle to the occasion with former Graham Potter in the opposition technical area, while Marc Cucurella started for the Blues having departed Albion in the summer.

“It was a great day, we’ve had quite a few good days at the Amex but we’ve not beaten Chelsea before in the Premier League so it’s a day to remember,” Gross reflected.

“The fans were brilliant supporting us all the way, I loved it to be fair! If you play football in front of full stadiums with your home fans behind you then it’s really enjoyable.”

It was just the third time Albion have scored three Premier League goals in a first half, a fact that caught Pascal out - the other two being the 3-2 victory over Manchester United and the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.

“We were really surprised [to have been 3-0 up], we have been getting in the right areas but haven’t been able to finish, we know that. We did it on Saturday and it makes life a lot easier if you score goals.

“We’ve played well and we deserve to have won before - Forest at home we should have done, but we just couldn’t score.

“It’s a big win for us and we’re really happy. We have confidence going forward.”

One of the tactical surprises at kick-off was Gross lining up at right-back, a position he first played in under Potter.

“During the week the gaffer spoke to me. I can play in different positions, I can adapt wherever I am needed. Tactically I am alright. It was tough against Raheem [Sterling], he’s so quick and skilful, so I tried my best. I know that I can be difficult to play against too, I can be aggressive. I can get up and down the pitch.”
