Billy Gilmour is proud of the way Albion have embraced the Europa League since their opening game against tonight’s opponents AEK Athens.
And he believes Albion can be a match for any side in the competition this season.
Back to back wins over Ajax which followed the 2-2 draw in Marseille have erased the memory of the 3-2 loss to AEK at the Amex on matchday one.
“We played them in our first game and I remember the night very well,” Billy told TNT Sports.
“It was the first game in Europe for the club and we didn’t know what to expect, everyone was a little bit anxious. The first ten minutes was a bit chaotic but since that game we’ve settled into the competition. We know what to expect on Thursday and we know what we can achieve as a team in this competition. Hopefully we can get the points to qualify for the knockout round.”
The Scottish midfielder says the squad don’t want Albion’s first European campaign to end at the group stage.
“It’s amazing to be part of this first season in Europe for the club, with all the history surrounding it. We want to do well, and we have a good squad and we feel that if we get it right on the day we can compete with anyone. We’re in a great group and to play against teams in these stadiums is brilliant.
“We don’t want this to be a one-off. Competing in this and the Premier League is very tough but we want to be pushing for Europe every years.
“We know what we’re capable of, we’re in a good place after two great wins and two clean sheets against Ajax and we’re looking forward to tonight.”
