Billy Gilmour is confident heās given Roberto De Zerbi food for thought when the Italian has to pick his team to play Manchester United on Thursday.
The Scotland international shone in midfield against Wolves on Saturday with Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo dropping to the bench as they rested after a busy schedule.
āI took my opportunity,ā Billy said. āOf course itās hard to fill in for Moises [Caicedo] and Alexis [Mac Allister] who have been doing a brilliant job all season and Iāve had to be patient, I tried to take my opportunity.
āWhen theyāve played Iāve watched them, studied them, the way they receive the ball and break the lines and theyāve been absolutely brilliant. In training Iāve been trying to do that as well, to get my opportunity to do that in the game, so it felt good.
āWe were absolutely gutted about the semi-final and then we had that over us when we went to Nottingham. But today we dusted ourselves down and knew we had to put in a performance. We move on to the next game, but I thought every single one of us was brilliant against Wolves.ā
The 21-year-old came into the team for just his third league start for Albion ā and his first since February ā and is now aiming to play an important role in our final seven games.
"I need to stay focussed and help the team whenever I am called upon. Weāve still got seven games left and itās all to play for.
"Every game we go into weāre confident with how weāre going to play. We scored six goals and it could have been more, thatās how many opportunities we had. But we keep working in training and keep going forward.
āWe know our style of play, we work on it every single day in training, we know how the manager wants to play and itās brilliant to watch and to be a part of.ā
Julio Enciso put in just as strong a performance as Billy, with our Scottish midfielder impressed.
āJulio is crazy! But heās a very good, very talented player as you could see against Wolves. He will only get better, the way he trains, the way he plays, he is showing everyone what he can do. He needs to keep doing that for the team.ā
