Senior development phase coach Shannon Ruth says the Sussex Senior Cup offers a great opportunity for players to develop.
Albion are into the last four and face Horsham on Tuesday at the Sussex FA Headquarters in Lancing, kick-off 7.15pm.
“We’re looking forward to it, it’s a competition that we’re determined to do well in as the winner gets to play at the Amex,” Ruth said. “For our young players that is a really exciting opportunity - to have that reward is a real carrot for the team.
“The competition is fantastic from a developmental perspective. We’re pleased to have got this far, but we want to go all the way.
Albion under-23s ran out 4-2 winners over Everton on Friday, ahead of Tuesday night's Senior Cup match.
“Premier League 2 places high tactical and technical demands on the players, but it’s not as physical as what the players experience in the Senior Cup, so it’s a really important part of the game for them to learn.”
Albion have had to prove they’re up for the physical side in previous rounds against Sussex’s non-league teams, but Ruth has been impressed by their performances.
“It's a type of game the players aren’t necessarily used to. At this level it’s about challenging the players as best you can and giving them as many different experiences against different types of opposition.
“Hopefully that prepares them for their first loan away from the club or experience with the first team.”
Horsham head into the game off the back of a 3-2 defeat to Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday, having drawn three and won one of their previous four games in the Isthmian League Premier Division.
“Horsham are on a decent run of form, they’re in a good place although they were beaten on Saturday,” added Ruth. “We’ve had a few of their games watched and we’re expecting a tough one. The team meeting before the game will emphasise having to compete for every ball and being at our best.”
The winners face Worthing in the final.
