Evan Ferguson has offered encouragement to another of Albion’s Irish contingent, striker Mark O’Mahony.
Born in Carrigaline in County Cork, O’Mahony, 18, joined Albion in January from Cork City after making 13 first-team appearances for the League of Ireland Premier Division club.
It is no exaggeration to say that he has made an impact in Shannon Ruth’s under-21 side since stepping into the central striker’s role that fell vacant after Ferguson moved up into the first team squad.
Two goals, a header and a precisely-placed low shot, in the 6-3 defeat away to Arsenal in Premier League 2 at the weekend brought his total to nine for this season.
Evan Ferguson became the first teenager since 2005 to score ten Premier League goals in a year against Fulham on Sunday.

More than a few observers have noticed physical similarities between Ferguson and O’Mahony, who is a strong leader of the line as well as having the scoring knack.
“Yes, he’s big, sort of a similar size to me and he likes to score goals,” Ferguson said. “As a striker that’s what you like to do.”
Proud Dubliner Ferguson described County Cork as ‘farmers’ land’ but he added: “He’s trained with us a few times. He’s good company, he’s a good lad. He works hard and is very concentrated.
“I know he’s got a good record in the under-21s now so hopefully he kicks on and we see him here [in the first team] soon.”
The under-21s are in Premier League 2 action on Friday as they take on Aston Villa at the Amex Elite Football Performance Centre.
