Lewis Dunk captained Albion to their first ever win at Old Trafford, when we won 2-1 on the opening day of this season.

Lewis Dunk has praised his ‘forward thinking’ head coach for improving him as a player.

Our skipper is due to make his 175th Premier League appearance against West Ham United as Albion bid to maintain their unbeaten start to the season and stretch their league run to seven games without defeat, going back to the end of last season.

And Dunk, 30, says Potter’s work with him on the training ground has helped him become one of the most reliable defenders in the league.

“In my opinion we have one of the most forward-thinking coaches in the game and since Graham came to the club he has definitely helped my game kick on,” said Dunk.

Graham Potter's team have taken four points from their opening two Premier League games.

“I have always shared the same ethos about the game as him but it’s been really good to be able to put it into practice.

“I’ve never thought of myself as just a defender who is simply a stopper. I like to help build attacks, link with players in front of me and show my flexibility in different systems, it’s a challenge I have really enjoyed.”

Four points from games against Manchester United and Newcastle United suggests we have continued where we left off after finishing a club record ninth last season, but Dunk takes nothing for granted.

“Every team is looking to improve so we’re not underestimating the task in front of us this season,” he said. “Our first target is always 40 points as it is with a lot of clubs in the division. Only then can you take stock and reassess your targets.

“I’m proud of what we achieved last season, but we start again from scratch, no two seasons are ever the same.”
