Pervis Estupinan is one of the ‘secrets’ of Albion’s success, according to head coach Roberto De Zerbi, and he believes the defender has the potential to become one of the ‘best left-backs in the world.’
The 25-year-old has been one of our most consistent performers since joining the club a year ago and scored his second Albion goal in last Saturday’s 4-1 win at Wolves.
The Ecuadorian international has also contributed seven assists in 37 Premier League appearances, forming a superb partnership down the left with Kaoru Mitoma.
De Zerbi is full of praise for Pervis. “I must admit that Pervis is one of the most crucial players for us because he started from left-back, but you can find him in a striker position,” he said. “He’s very smart, he’s one of our secrets I think.”
The Italian, speaking ahead of today’s game at the Amex against West Ham United, was asked what facet of Estupinan’s game has improved in the last year.
“Yes, [his] first control and pass but I am pushing this with him all the time.
“If he becomes clean in the first control and the passes, I think he can become one of the best left-backs in the world.”
