David Weir revealed parts of the clubâs processes when it comes to signing players in the latest episode of The Official Brighton & Hove Albion Podcast. The technical director also talked about his role with the club, which he took on permanently in May 2022.
âIt's a constant process thatâs on going in terms of availability, team needs [and] opportunity,â David said, when it comes to identifying signings. âWithin that weâve got a way of working and parameters weâre working in, but all subject to circumstances effecting that.
âThatâs the reality of the job, you have to be prepared in a lot of different ways for a lot of different scenarios and youâve got to have a good gauge of what the market place looks like.â
While there is a data-led approach, the former Everton and Rangers defender has said that the process isnât solely reliant on it.
âI donât think itâs ever 100% [data led] and I donât think anybody would want that. Thereâs always got to be a human element because thereâs human beings involved. Thereâs subtleties to that and things are relevant so you have to compensate for that.
David Weir was the latest guest on the Official BHAFC Podcast.
âThe players you bring in are individuals so thereâs got to be an understanding of what is their character like. What is their background? Where have they been? What will help them? Because a lot of it is about developing them into what we want them to be.
âA big part of that is the environment and culture that we have here at the training ground, in terms of the people and facilities that we have, which is also an investment.
âRelationships are very important, whether itâs loan players and Gordon Greer looking after those players or recruitment, which Mike Cave leads. People on the ground build relationships and trust that you will look after their players.â
