Marc Cucurella says he is very happy at the club as he prepares to end a memorable debut season in the Albion shirt.
The 23-year-old Spanish defender has established himself in the side since arriving from Getafe last August and his consistent performances saw him pick up the players’ and supporters’ player of the year awards last week.
“If people are speaking about you it means you are playing well and that motivates me. This season has gone quite well for me. I am very happy here. But it’s my first year and I am very young and still have a lot to learn.”
Supporters were out in force in their wigs at Leeds last weekend.
He added that the song Albion fans have for him reflects the strong bond he has formed with our supporters.
“The song makes me feel emotional. When you’re on the pitch you don’t hear it because you’re focused. But when the game stops and they sing it, it’s amazing – I haven’t been here long and they already have a song for me!
“I always try to give my all on the pitch, so the fans are happy with me and they reward me with my song. From the start there has been a mutual understanding, we’re all on the same page and that’s good for Brighton.”
The Spain international won the Players' Player and Supporters' Player of the Season awards.
The Spain international is pleased with his first season in the Premier League, which he hopes will end with as good result when we take on West Ham at the Amex on Sunday.
“It couldn’t really have gone any better. I have played every game and started nearly all of them and played at a high level, and the team has played well.
“We have had a couple of bad run but after six games without a win the manager improved a few things and we have really enjoyed these last few games and beaten great teams. We have made the fans happy and we’re on the right track.”
