Although not quite the âpowerful runnerâ he once was, Andrew Crofts has said he is thoroughly enjoying his role with the under-23s.
The player-coach is still in good shape, but admits heâs not the athlete he used to be.
âI am still fit. I look after myself and prepare the right way, but I am nowhere near as quick as I was! That is something I have noticed a lot; I was never quick but I was quite a powerful runner.
âI am still sharp, I still cover good ground, and I have got a lot of experience, which hopefully allows me to pick up positions so I donât have to rely on my legs as much anymore. I have got lots of legs around me, so that obviously helps!
âI am really enjoying the role though â the coaching side of it has really ignited a passion in me. I know it will be something I will want to do for a long time.â
Albion will look to continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League 2 campaign when they take on Liverpool at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre this afternoon.
âWeâve had a really strong start in the league; weâre obviously undefeated at the moment with two wins and two draws against very good opposition.
âWeâve put in some really strong performances and one or two that could have been better. But itâs part of their development that when youâre not playing at your best, youâre still able to win. Itâs a really good sign and will put them in really good stead for the future.Â
"Regarding the league, itâs been really positive but thereâs lots to work on and improve.
âItâs been a very busy period after being out of action for a long time. But itâs what everyone wanted, games are coming thick and fast. Weâve got that buzz of preparing for games."
