Over 15,000 trees will be planted in a deforested area in Ecuador on behalf of MyAlbion+ members this season.
Thanks to the generosity of Brighton & Hove Albion fans and our partnership with www.TreeApp.org, over 4,000 trees have already been planted in Ecuador, with this expected to exceed 15,000 by the end of the campaign. A huge thank you to everyone who has made this possible.
For the 2022/23 season MyAlbion+ members were given the option to opt not to receive their membership pack and choose to plant five trees in a mountainous region of Ecuador that has been affected by deforestation. This area is part of a natural corridor between several natural parks where forests have just been discovered.
The project focuses on restoring habitats for local endangered birds and protecting local waters sources as the trees roots regulate the flow of fresh water into streams which also benefits local agriculture.
The significance of this project cannot be overstated, especially considering Ecuador's forest loss in recent years. By focusing on replanting in protected areas, we hope to make a meaningful contribution to the restoration and preservation of these crucial ecosystems.
The tree planting is being led by the local farmers who will benefit from the trees and the project will also involve local communities, and train them in natural resource management. The tree nurseries used for the seed to sapling growth are predominantly led by women, who receive the training required to deliver workshops at the tree nurseries.
