Albion adopt official stance on antisemitism

Brighton & Hove Albion are pleased to confirm its formal adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism.

The club and the Premier League have adopted the working definition of antisemitism, as follows:

Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.

The UK government's special advisor on antisemitism Lord Mann has welcomed the club's stance, and commented, "It shows real community leadership and evidences how genuine and deeply ingrained the club's values and ethics are.

“Brighton & Hove Albion are a much-loved and famous football club and this initiative will be met across government and parliament with applause and approval."

Club chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber explained, “The adoption of this definition will assist us in the training and education of our staff and stewards and will provide everyone at the club and our fans with a deeper understanding and education of appropriate language used in the stadium, online and in the community.

"Brighton & Hove Albion have a clear zero tolerance policy on all forms of discrimination, including antisemitism, and the club is grateful for the support of its local Jewish community in Brighton through its history, and continues to value our close links to the local community and Jewish fan base."
